Newcastle have beaten Wolves 2-1, making it their best start to a season for 17 years, stretching their unbeaten run to 7 games in the PL and 9 games in all competitions.

Demba Ba continued scoring, after heading in Yohan Cabaye's corner in the 18th minute, making it his fourth goal in two games.

Jonas, who recently extended his contract to 2015, scored the second goal of the match after 38 minutes of play.

Steven Fletcher scored Wolves only goal in the 88th minute, although Kevin Doyle was denied the final say with the ball ruled out, giving Newcastle relievement, saving them from losing 2 points.

Newcastle Continue Unbeaten Run To 7 Games Empty Re: Newcastle Continue Unbeaten Run To 7 Games

Apart from the last 5 minutes of the game which was in truth very messy and rather controversial, that was a measured display that would rival the likes of Man Utd and Man City in any way shape or form. It was just the sort of game we needed to justify the growing belief that Newcastle are slowly but surely showing their class at long last in this division.

Ba and Gutierrez took their chances at important moments in the 1st half, more notably Jonas’ trickery within the penalty area six minutes before the break. Pundits will argue that the Wolves defence gifted the goal but personally I believe you have to use your skill and a bit of luck to get into that position and it was a well-put-together solo effort by the Argentine.

It was clear for much of the 2nd half that we took our foot off the throttle pedal and gave Wolves too much possession to play with. If it weren’t for the sterling man of the match efforts by Krul from the shots by Fletcher and then Berra, it would’ve put a different complexion on the game and certainly would’ve tested Newcastle’s character for the final quarter of the game.

The only concern from today’s game is the conceding of goals when the match was very much home and dry in Toon’s eyes. It should never have got to that point at all and when Wolves look like they will never score, the most important thing is never give them a sniff, even if there’s seven or eight Wolves players pushing and shoving in the penalty area with three minutes left, you just get your foot to it and blast it down into the Wolves’ half of the field. The story from the whole game could read that Wolves were within a linesman/referee decision away from grabbing a point which they wouldn’t have deserved. I won’t talk about the controversial incident near the end because it is rather complicated to judge on what was right and what was wrong.

I just wish Toon would win a game more comfortably than what we saw today. Despite this, Newcastle are continuing to amaze many people, especially our own fans by maintaining this extraordinary run of results in which they have not lost a competitive match home or away since the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on May 1st. They’ve more than doubled their points tally from last season at this stage but to compile the club’s best start to a league season in 17 years and also have the best defence in the country speaks volumes for team morale and spirit. It is seemingly clear that Toon are putting together a campaign that will reach out to other clubs that the Toon is back where they belong in the thick of the big boys and will be up for any game and fight no matter what.

I still personally feel that we haven’t witnessed the full potential of our squad even at this stage of the season. If this current crop of players such as Krul, Cabaye, Tiote, Gutierrez, Sam Ameobi, Ba, Best, Ben Arfa and hopefully Santon stick to their form and stay injury free then we could potentially see the return of European football to the club. Long shot I know but it’s up for grabs. GREAT TIMES!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
