Carver Talks Obertan
By Toon Stig
John Carver has spoken of the potential of Gabriel Obertan, claiming he needs time to settle in with the different style of play at Newcastle.
The French Winger signed from Man Utd in August, as a replacement for Wayne Routledge who left for Swansea.
Obertan hasn't made much of an impact in the side and was subbed off in the Wigan match last weekend, but has showed signs of potental with hs pace.
Carver the Assistant Manager said,
“It has been hard for
Gabby, because he’s not
played regular first team
football for two years,”
“It’s
something he’s getting
used to, but his workrate’s
there for all to see in
training and in games.
“Of course, like any young
player he has to work on
things, but each day, and
each game, I think he’ll
get better.
“He’s working on his final
ball into the box, and he
needs to tidy up a few
things. Yet he’s certainly
going in the right
direction, and he’s got the
right attitude.
“The great thing about
him is that he wants to
learn, and he wants to
improve, as a player.
“That’s something that
even the greatest players
in the game have done –
you’re always striving to
improve on your game.”

Re: Carver Talks Obertan
The lad does plenty of running but needs to improve his end product. But more to the point, when he's running, where is he going? Is he running anywhere of particular threat? Is there a killer pass he has in mind? Or is it all going to end in a whimper with momentum lost.

Re: Carver Talks Obertan
It's only early days yet
To be honest I don't think at times he knows himself where hes running to.
He needs to take his time more and observe the way we play.

And with any luck, those are the sorts of things they're working in on training. We'll make a player out of him yet
